Frequently Asked Question

Getting Started
What should I do if I’m having problems with ExamView? Before seeking technical support, please check the following:
  • Is your computer working properly? Try some other software, which you know is working on the same machine
  • Try the software on another computer
  • Can you or someone else repeat the problem?

If your question is not answered below please feel free to e-mail us at McDougal@hudsonsoft.com. In order to help you as quickly as possible, have the following information available before you call technical support:
  • Title of the Test Generator
  • Brand, model, and configuration of the computer you are using
  • System version (Windows XP, OS X 10.2, etc.)
  • The exact wording of any error message
Why am I having trouble installing the ExamView CD on a Mac? There is a known issue that affects Mac OS 10.4.2 – 10.4.9 causing the installer window to appear blank. There are two options available for remedying this issue.

Option 1:
  • Users select the ‘Resources’ folder located on the ExamView CD
  • Select the desired book
  • Select ‘Continue’ when prompted
  • The installer for that particular book will run appropriately
  • When finished, users will have the opportunity to install the other books available on the CD

Option 2:
  • End users can visit the Apple website and download the free upgrade to OS version 10.4.10
  • Once upgraded, the ExamView launch screen will display correctly
How do I add a question to be used in several tests? You may create a new question or edit a question while building a test. However, editing a question after it is included on a test does not change the original question in the question bank. You must edit or add new questions in a question bank to make those questions available when you build your tests.
Will my tests created in my McDougal Littell Test Generator work with the ExamView Test Generator? No, unfortunately tests created in the MLTG system are not compatible with the ExamView platform. You will need to recreate the desired test within the ExamView system.
Troubleshooting
Is my McDougal Littell ExamView Test Generator compatible with the CPS response pads? Yes, however, FTDI drivers must be installed to use CPS response pads with ExamView. An installer for these drivers is automatically copied to the Extras sub-folder of the program directory as part of the complete installation of ExamView. Navigate to this folder and run the driver installer if they are needed. You may also visit einstruction to download the latest version of the required drivers. These drivers are already installed if Classroom Performance System software is installed.
How do I publish a test to my McDougal Littell Assessment System account? Create a test, when finished select the ‘Publish To’ option from the File menu. The McDougal Littell Assessment System will be an option within that menu. When prompted please enter the appropriate information such as login ID and district ID.
